New Delhi: Afghanistan's ruling Taliban has written to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), government of India, demanding the restart of flight services between India and Afghanistan. This is the first official talks held by the Taliban government in Afghanistan since its formation.

The letter to Director General of Civil Aviation Arun Kumar is dated September 7. It calls for the resumption of air services by Alhaj Hamidullah Akhunzada, acting minister of the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority. Let us tell you that commercial flights between India and Afghanistan have been banned since August 15. However, some flights were certainly operated to evacuate the Indians from the Taliban conflict and the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. But no air service has been started since the Indians were brought home from there.

In a letter to DGCA, Akhunzada wrote, 'As you were recently informed, Kabul airport was completely destroyed by US troops before returning to the US. With the assistance of our ally Qatar, the airport has once again become operational. Information in this regard has been issued on September 6, 2021.' The minister has since appealed for the resumption of air services between India and Afghanistan.
