Hyderabad: "The 20,000 litre free water scheme for the people of Greater Hyderabad is not clear. The government is misleading," said Senior Congress leader and former Minister Mohammad Ali Shabbir.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, he said that the supply of drinking water through government or religious slums in Hyderabad was free from the beginning. Therefore, there is no profit or loss from the new scheme for consumers. On the other hand, the burden of installation of new meters is on them. The question is why is the government forcing them to change the meter?

Shabbir Ali said that the implementation of the scheme was not clear for the customers living in apartments. Flat owners are ridiculous to set up personal meters or go for personal registration because they get water supply through the connection and they split the bill amount. Shabbir Ali demanded that the state government should simplify the rules for implementing 20,000,000 litrefree water schemes and not impose the burden on consumers.

He objected to the condition that the Aadhaar number should be linked with the customer account number. This will penetrate consumer privacy. However, the High Court recently objected to the attached card linked to property registration.
