THERAN: More than 100 days after the death of Mahsa Amini sparked nationwide unrest, state media reported on Sunday that a member of Iran's security forces was shot dead during protests in the city of Semirom.

Since 22-year-old Amini died in custody on Sept. 16 after being arrested for allegedly violating Iran's strict dress code for women, the country has been rocked by protests, which officials have described as "riots." "Agreeed."

"Basis member murdered in city of Semirom by armed criminals," according to official news agency IRNA, referring to the paramilitary group affiliated with the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

According to IRNA, protesters gathered late on Saturday in the city, which is located in the central Isfahan province, some 470 km south of the capital Tehran.

They also gathered in front of other buildings in Semirom and the regional administration building. According to reports, security forces were sent into the city to restore order, and in some cases, clashes occurred with several rioters.

According to Iranian officials, thousands of people have been detained and hundreds killed, including members of the security forces, during the nationwide unrest.
Tehran blames opposition organizations and hostile foreign powers for fomenting the unrest.

Two 23-year-old men who were found guilty of assaulting security personnel in connection with protests in Iran last month were put to death.

According to the legal system, nine more people have been sentenced to death. Activists claimed this week that dozens of protesters have also been charged with offenses that could result in the death penalty.
