Leh: The 18 feet tall statue of Seventeenth King Singe Nangyal installed on Friday in Leh, the capital of Ladakh celebrating becoming a Union Territory, will remind the new generation to preserve the rich culture of Ladakh. The statue of the seventeenth-century ruler of the state of Ladakh settled on the Silk Route was unveiled at the Hemis Monastery in Leh on Friday.

The concept of installing this statue in Leh was conceived by Dharma Guru Gwalwang Drukpa of the lineage of Vajrayana branch of Buddhism in 2017. It was further promoted by Hemis Math. As Ladakh became a Union Territory, Hemis Math has dedicated a new statue of the ruler, Rakshasa Nangyal. This statue is a symbol of Ladakh's history, strength and greatness. Religion guru Gwalwang Drukpa has given this information on social site Twitter on Friday.

Raja Singe Nangyal worked a lot in promoting Buddhism as well as promoting art. He also built several monasteries in Ladakh along with the nine-storey Leh Palace. Raja Singe Nangyal Lama was strongly influenced by Stactsang. The king gave him the status of the Lama, the patron of Ladakh region. Under the guidance of King Singe, he started the Hemis Math in Leh. 25 students from Baltistan were brought here to become lamas. Today Hemis Math is the most revered monastery of Ladakh.
