Stocks to Watch: Nifty tops 17,300; Sensex rises 157 pts

MARKET CLOSING UPDATES:  Thursday's trading in the equity markets was erratic as investors adjusted their holdings in anticipation of the weekly F&O expiry. The BSE Sensex moved within a narrow range of 405 points, before it closed at 58,222, up 157 points or 0.27 percent. 

However, the Nifty50 closed at 17,332, up 58 points or 0.33 percent. The top gainers, up between 1 percent and 5 percent, were JSW Steel, Hindalco, Coal India, L&T, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, HCL Tech, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, Tata Consumer Products, Shree Cement, and Wipro.

Today, all broad market indicators were green. Nifty FMCG Index, Nifty Pharma Index, Nity Healthcare Index, and Nifty Financial Services Index among sectoral indices all experienced a negative closing day. The Nifty Healthcare and Nifty Pharma indices have been rising over the last few days. Today's closing in the red denotes that these stocks booked some profits. The Nifty FMCG index suffered the most loss today. Today, 68 stocks reached new 52-week highs, while Eight equities made it to their 52-week lows.

The top losers, down up to 2.5 percent, were Bharti Airtel, HUL, HDFC, IndusInd Bank, Divis Labs, SBI Life, Britannia, HDFC Bank, and Bajaj Finance.

The BSE SmallCap index increased by 1.3 percent, and the BSE MidCap index rose by 1 percent in the larger markets. Sector-wise, the Nifty Metal index increased by more than 3.4 percent, while the Nifty Pharma and FMCG indices experienced profit-booking and decreased by up to 0.5 percent.
