There are many such temples in India, many secrets are hidden behind Gennec. One such temple is in the city of Jejuri in Pune district of Maharashtra. It is known as Khandoba Temple. In Marathi, it is called 'Khandobachi Jejuri' (Khandoba's Jejuri). This temple is situated on a small hill at an elevation of 718 meters (about 2,356 feet). To reach here, around two hundred stairs have to be climbed. There are many stories about this temple, which is surprising.
The deity sitting in this temple is called Lord Khandoba. He is also known by other names like Martand Bhairava and Malhari, which is another form of Lord Shiva. The idol of Lord Khandoba is in the form of a warrior riding a horse. To kill the demons in his hand is a big sword (Kharag). The Khandoba temple is mainly divided into two parts. The first part is called Mandapa while the second part is the sanctum sanctorum, in which the idol of Lord Khandoba is installed. Built-in Hemadpanthi style, this temple also has a large turtle made of brass. Apart from this, many important weapons have been kept in the temple from a historical point of view. On the day of Dussehra, there is also a competition to keep the heavy sword for a long time with the help of teeth, which is very famous.
The tyranny of two demon brothers named Malla and Mani had increased greatly on the earth, to eliminate which Lord Shiva incarnated Martand Bhairav. It is also said that God cut off Malla's head and left it on the stairs of the temple whereas Mani had asked God to bless him with the blessings of mankind, so he left him. The mention of this legend is found in the Brahmanda Purana. Lord Khandoba is considered as a fiery deity, so his rules of worship are very strict. They are offered turmeric and flowers just like a normal puja, but sometimes goat meat is offered outside the temple to God.
