Bombay High Court orders strict ban on political rallies during Corona period: Maharashtra govt.

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday said the Maharashtra government should stay political rallies violating the Covid-19 protocol imposed during the epidemic. A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice GS Kulkarni asked how such rallies were allowed earlier this month, including a rally in the name of an airport in neighbouring Navi Mumbai, even after a ban on large meetings to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The bench said that 'If the state is unable to prevent such incidents in future, the court will have to intervene and stop any such political rally'. The Bombay High Court told state advocate general Ashutosh Kumbakoni that,' Maharashtra government have to activate their mechanism to stop any political rally violating the Covid-19 protocol.'

The court further said, 'If Maharashtra govt can't handle it, let it be in the hands of  the court. We won't let that happen. We are closing the courts, we are not able to function with full capacity (due to the compliance of the protocols and restrictions imposed by the State in view of the epidemic) and yet, these political leaders organizing rallies'.
