New Delhi: There has been a worldwide hue and cry over the omicron variant of corona infection, meanwhile India has been alerted to protect it from the omicron variant. The Omicron variant has been described by the World Health Organization (WHO) as more dangerous and rapidly spreading than delta. In view of this crisis, vigilance has been increased at all airports in India. The government has imposed strict rules for people coming from abroad from today. Strict rules have come into force from today for international travellers, especially those coming from at-risk countries.

The Central Government has asked states and Union Territories to conduct RT-PCR tests on the first day of arrival of people from at-risk countries and re-test on the 8th day. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Tuesday advised states not to exempt and to strictly monitor international passengers coming from all airports, ports and land limits.

What are the new rules?
Under the new rules, RT-PCR tests are mandatory for people coming from risk-prone countries and they will be allowed to leave the airport only after the test results are out. Also, five per cent of those coming by flight from other countries will be tested for corona. The authority is all set to introduce the new rules from Tuesday midnight. Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry has advised that international passengers coming from at risk countries should be prepared to wait at the airport till the results of the RT-PCR test are out and do not book a pre-contact flight from there to another location. In addition, the Ministry has asked the States to send all confirmed samples to the concerned Insacog Laboratory for genome sequencing immediately.
