Kyiv: At least two people were killed and five others were reported missing in the attacks on the city of Zaporizhzhya in southeast Ukraine, according to the region's governor, who blamed Russia for the attacks.

The city is located in the Zaporizhzhya region under Ukrainian control, which is also the site of a nuclear plant heavily shelled by Russian occupation. This week, Moscow occupied the region despite not having complete control.

Ukraine-elected governor Oleksandr Starukh posted on social media that "a woman died and another man died in an ambulance." He said at least five people were trapped under the rubble after the attacks.

He said a rescue effort that was still underway saved "many people". Staruk had earlier uploaded a picture of a burning building which had collapsed.

According to him, the Russian army fired seven times on "high buildings". Last week, Ukraine reported that at least 30 people were killed when a convoy of passenger vehicles shelled the Zaporizhzhya region in an attack by Kyiv, attributed to Moscow.
