Istanbul: According to local media, strong windstorms have killed at least six people and injured more than 50 others in Turkey's northwestern area.

On Tuesday, the NTV, a Turkish television news channel, reported that four people had killed and 46 others had been injured in Istanbul, Turkey's largest metropolis with a population of over 16 million people. According to the report, bad weather killed two more persons and injured numerous more in the northern provinces of Kocaeli and Zonguldak. Due to the severe winds, ships have been stranded and schools have been forced to close. Strong gusts have made it difficult for motorcycles to traverse the Bosphorus Strait bridges, according to the report.

The Istanbul Governor's Office announced in a written statement that motorcycles and electric scooters were barred from the road until 6 p.m. local time (1500 GMT) on Monday.The storm has interrupted planes headed for Istanbul, according to Turkish Airlines, Turkey's national flag carrier.
