While there is so much unemployment on one side in the country. Meanwhile, in IIT Kharagpur students have been given 118 'pre-placement offers' (PPOs) from top companies at the beginning of the semester. 

About this, Prof Devashish Dev, in-charge of Development Center, told the media that until August 11, Microsoft and Wipro have made the top 14 offers, while Qualcomm has 13, Samsung 12 and Texas Instruments have offered 11.

It has been offered by ITC, Unilever and several other companies, which are related to core and non-core sectors such as finance, software, analytics, and consultancy. Dev told the media that it is a tremendous start of the placement phase. Usually, PPO of total placements is around 15% and with the advance of the semester, there will be more offers.

It has been made mandatory internships for the students in May-June for the main technology and engineering institutes, which is a part of the curriculum. On the issue of placement, Professor Dev said that we are already contacting newcomers as well as new companies and many companies have responded to it. We hope that by next December 250 companies can come for placement.
