New Delhi: The AAP government's push for electric four-wheelers has gained the required momentum, so Delhi has no plans to extend subsidies on the purchase of electric cars, transport minister Kailash Gahlot said on Tuesday.
The state government of Delhi offered subsidies on the first thousand electric cars purchased in the national capital, according to the city's EV policy, which was announced earlier this year. The electric vehicles received an Rs10,000 per kWh of battery capacity subsidy, with benefits capped at Rs1.5 lakh per vehicle. These vehicles were also exempt from paying road tax and registration fees.
"The electric car segment has received the required push in Delhi," Kailash Gahlot said. Our current told Hindustan Times. Our current focus is on the two-wheeler, freight, and public transpo focus is on the two-wheeler, freight, and public transportation segments of the electric vehicle (EV) market, which account for a significant portion of Delhi's over 10 million registered vehicles. They also use the road more than private cars, resulting in increased pollution."
"In fact, an e-car subsidy is not required because those who can afford to pay around Rs 15 lakh for a vehicle are unconcerned if the cost is Rs 1-2 lakh higher without the subsidy. Our goal is to provide the subsidy to those who need it the most, such as auto drivers, two-wheeler owners, delivery partners, and others," Gahlot explained. The subsidy amount for other electric vehicles, such as two-wheelers, was Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity with a maximum benefit of Rs 30,000 per vehicle.
