KHARTOUM (Arabic): Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, has reaffirmed his commitment to the country's democratic transition, according to Sudan TV. Al-Burhan made the statements during a meeting with an Arab League team led by Hossam Zaki, the Arab League's Assistant Secretary-General.
Sudan TV quoted Al-Burhan as saying, "The military forces are dedicated to the democratic transition until an elected administration preferred by the people is reached." According to sources, Zaki emphasised the significance of conversation among all Sudanese components in order to find a good conclusion for all parties. He also stated that the Arab League is willing to assist the Sudanese parties in sitting at the bargaining table.
Sudan has been in a political crisis since Al-Burhan proclaimed a state of emergency and disbanded the sovereign council and cabinet on October 25. The ruling coalition's civilian component, the Forces of Freedom and Change alliance, accused Al-Burhan of staging a military coup.
