Recently after a lot of upheaval Sudan's ruling Transitional Sovereign Council, which is dominated by the military, has agreed to form a government led by a civilian Prime Minister to finish the transitional period's responsibilities.

According to media sources, when Chairman of the Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan met with an SS team led by Assistant State Secretary Molly Phee and Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa David Satterfield in the Republican Palace on Thursday, he made clear the council's position.

The council stated in a statement that it is willing to alter the constitution to adapt to current circumstances and organise free and fair elections in Sudan by the conclusion of the transitional phase.The Sudanese and American sides emphasised the importance of all Sudanese parties participating in a comprehensive round-table national dialogue involving all political and societal forces, with the exception of the dissolved National Congress Party, to reach a national consensus to end the current crisis, the statement added.
