Raju Srivastav, an actor and comedian, passed away this morning in Delhi. He was 58. After having a cardiac arrest on a treadmill on August 10, Srivastava was receiving treatment at the AIIMS hospital. He had been using a ventilator at AIIMS for a number of weeks.

For more than three decades, Srivastava entertained audiences with his comedic performances. His coworkers have warm memories of him. His former coworker Sugandha Mishra said, "It is heartbreaking to learn that Rajuji is no longer with us. I always had hope that he would recover because he had been in the hospital for more than a month. He has made a lot of people laugh, according to my mother, and he will live a long time. Unfortunately, he has passed away."

Srivastava and Sugandha have collaborated on a number of shows. Sugandha recalls the good old days and says: "We both embarked on a global tour for our respective shows in 2016, and during that time I had the opportunity to get to know him better personally. He had a good heart and was modest and straightforward. I could tell he was very particular about his physical fitness and well-being. He used to get up early and go swimming and to the hotel gym while I slept in the mornings. He was very vivacious in personality. I last had the opportunity to perform on stage with him two months ago. We were performing for a show for the Mumbai police."

She continues, "His smile is one feature of him that I will never forget. Whatever the circumstance, he would always maintain a smile."

Beginning comedians found inspiration in Srivastava. Sugandha asserts: "He had a lot of talent. I once enjoyed his Gajodhar bhaiyya persona. He was distinctive in that he could make comedy even out of inanimate objects. He could make comical remarks about any random non-living thing, just as we do when we observe living people. I wish his family well in these trying times."
