Amritsar: Sukhbir Singh Badal, head of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Shiad), was born on July 9, 1962. He represents the Turquoisepur parliamentary constituency in Punjab. He is the son of former Punjab CM Prakash Singh Badal. He also served as Deputy CM of Punjab. Sukhbir's wife Harsimrat Kaur is also a politician and is currently an MP from Bhatinda Lok Sabha seat.

Sukhbir Singh received his primary education from Lawrence School, Sanwar and received a Master's degree in Economics from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He also holds a master's degree in management from California State University, Los Angeles, USA. The Shiromani Akali Dal, led by Sukhbir Singh Badal, contests elections in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sukhbir Singh won the Faridkot Lok Sabha seat in the 11th and 12th Lok Sabha consecutively. He was The Union Minister of State between 1998 and 1999, besides Rajya Sabha MP from 2001 to 2004. He also won in the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004. In January 2008, he was declared the head of the Akali Dal. He also won the 2012 Assembly. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections also, Shiad had contested the elections in association with the BJP and had performed spectacularly.
