Sultanpur: The drive to rename the Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh has once again intensified. BJP MLA Vinod Singh has demanded that Sultanpur be renamed Kushbhavanpur. He has written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi. It will likely be sealed soon. Earlier in 2018, BJP MLA from Lambhua (Sultanpur) Devmani Dwivedi had raised the issue in the assembly. He had claimed that the ancient name of Sultanpur was Kush. After the MLA raised the issues, a discussion on changing the name of the district was started.
The same Vinod Singh has written in his letter that kush Bhawanpur was the capital of Kush, the son of Lord Shri Ram, in treta yuga. Generations ahead of Maharaja Kush ruled till Dravya. Then the Kauravas fought on behalf of the army and attained the gallantry. Sultanpur district has important mythological places like Dhopap, Makari Kund, Sita Kund, and Bijethua. There is mythological evidence of the fact that Kush, the junior son of lord Shri Ram, all of us, made this district his capital and named it Kushbhavanpur.
Thereafter, Emperor Khilji renamed the district Sultanpur to propagate his culture. In today's Praja-tantric era, a name like Sultan is in the eyes of the people. There have been several public movements to change this and memoranda have also been given. It remains a very sensitive issue for the public. So, the name of Sultanpur should be changed to Kushbhavanpur.
