New Delhi: After a six-week recess, the Supreme Court is opening back from July 1 and will now have to deal with important and sensitive cases like the Ayodhya and Rafale fighter jets deal. Congress National President Rahul Gandhi had apologized to the Supreme Court for his contempt action over the "Chowkidar Chor Hai" comment in the Rafale case, but the matter is yet to be heard.

The court, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, will begin its work from July 1 with 31 judges. It is likely that he will pronounce the verdict on the review petitions related to the Rafale case. The Supreme Court had on December 14, 2018, dismissed a petition challenging the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France. Former Union ministers Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie and lawyer Prashant Bhushan have filed a petition seeking review of the court order.

Not only that, but a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also heard a contempt petition filed by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi against Congress President Rahul Gandhi for misquoting the Supreme Court in his remarks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Y. Will. Rahul Gandhi has apologized in the case and requested him to stop the contempt proceedings.
