India football team captain Sunil Chhetri has been chosen by the fans as the best player of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. He has defeated Eldor Shomurodov of Uzbekistan. Chhetri has been voted 51 while Shomurodov has 49 votes.
The Asian Football Federation wrote on Twitter, '19 days, 561856 votes and has decided the most favorite player of the Asian Cup. Best wishes to Sunil Chhetri.' Chhetri had scored 2 goals in the group stage. Both goals were scored in a 4–1 match against Thailand. India came close to entering the final 16 but lost to the UAE and Bahrain.
AFC has made this opinion on its official Instagram handle. Chhetri has scored 72 goals in 115 international matches for India. Among the active footballers, only Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal. Chhetri has also surpassed Argentina star Lionel Messi in terms of international goals.
