New Delhi: Team India's legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has made a big prediction about the Indian team's young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Sunil Gavaskar has said that Rishabh Pant will captain Team India in the future. In the absence of Shreyas Iyer, Pant took over the reins of the Delhi Capitals in IPL-14. Under her captaincy, Delhi won 6 of 8 matches and remained at the top of the points table till the IPL was postponed.
Gavaskar is quite impressed with Pant's captaincy. He has a learning appetite in Pant. Gavaskar defended Rishabh Pant's minor mistakes and said that the young player has shown a glimpse in IPL and if he captains with patience, he will be more successful. Gavaskar wrote in his column in Sportstar, 'Rishabh Pant captained Delhi to be the most brilliant team in the tournament. By the sixth match, one could see Pant appearing tired of the question related to kaptani. After the match, each presenter asked him the same questions.
Gavaskar said that if what he showed is a spark, it can turn into a roar in the long run, if he is allowed. Yes, he made mistakes, which one doesn't make?' Gavaskar further wrote, 'Pant is the captain of the future, no doubt. This is because he showed that talent can come from opportunity only if it goes on in a level playing field with improvement.'
