Delhi, A family from Ashok Vihar locality was in for a shock after doctors at Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh area operated the wrong leg of their son. Ravi Rai 24 years old, fell from the stairs on Sunday, following which he was taken to Fortis hospital at Shalimar Bagh.

Acording to patient's father, "After the doctors analysed the condition of our son, they suggested surgery on the injured right leg. We agreed to it as it was important according to them. However, we were shocked to know that instead of performing surgery on the injured leg they operated on the other leg".

According to sources, after gaining consciousness, Ravi kept frantically telling the doctors that his left leg was operated, however, they came to the aide only after half an hour. Ravi alleged that the doctor's confusion about the affected leg led to the incident.

As per the family, the doctors during the surgery also inserted two rods in his left leg, instead of the injured right leg.

The hospital, admitted to the mistake later, and said, "Patient's safety is of paramount importance to us. We are deeply concerned and are looking into the matter and will take appropriate action as deemed necessary."
