Dehradun: Supporting the BJP at the time of the recent Assembly elections in Uttarakhand came down heavily on a Muslim family. People of the Muslim religion, who were with a radical mindset, beat him badly and injured him. Four persons, including a young woman, were seriously injured in the incident. Not only this, on supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party, the neighbours termed the victim's family as a "kafir" and a "betrayer of Islam".

According to a report received, the case pertains to Udham Singh Nagar in the Rudrapur district. Police have registered a case against six criminals in the assault incident and identified five and are searching for the sixth convict. The victim Muslim Anis Mian Guddu, a resident of Bhurbangla under ward no. 20, is an office-bearer of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the run-up to the assembly elections, he campaigned for the BJP and sought the votes of Muslims, after which his own religion stood against him.

Anees' wife Parveen Jahan told the police that on April 5, her husband Anees was sitting in his shop when a mob of locals surrounded her husband. Jahan said, "One of the men in the crowd of criminals was Yunus, who lived near his house. Yunus was accompanied by his wife Reshma, his brother Irfan, Shakeel and his wife Baby Anees to the shop and started abusing him. They all had knives and sticks in their hands. They called Anees a "kafir" and accused him of betraying Islam. According to Jahan, first, her husband was attacked by Yunus with a knife and then everyone started beating him up. They also snatched Jahan's earrings and fled from there. Jahan, who was injured in the attack, had gone to the hospital for treatment with her husband. At that time, her children (son and daughter) were at home. The culprits returned again and entered their house and told the children that 'taught your parents a lesson' now it was 'your turn'. The criminals also beat up the children. The child was badly injured. Parveen alleged that even when she was going to the police station to lodge a complaint in the matter, the neighbours tried to stop her. The case is now being investigated by the police.
