NEW DELHI: Allahabad High Court Judge Ranganath Pandey has sent a letter to PM Narendra Modi alleging that judges of the High Court and the apex court are selected in tea parties and banquets. In the letter, Justice writes that casteism and dynasticism are preferred in the appointment of judges in the High Court and the Supreme Court. The letter states that the family of a judge in the High Court and the apex court ensures that he becomes the next judge.

The letter further states, "The selection process of high court and top court judges has been the test of being lobbying and favorite of senior judges in the tea feast in closed rooms. Privacy is taken care of throughout this entire process and it has been a tradition of making future judges public only after the nomination process is completed," he said. 'The criteria for who was selected is not known, as well as the tradition of keeping the process secret, like proving the principle of transparency as false.'

The letter further states, "Sir, when your government tried to set up a National Judicial Selection Commission, the entire country had hoped for transparency in the judiciary. But, unfortunately, the Hon'ble Supreme Court had declared it unconstitutional, considering it as interfering in its jurisdiction.
