The Supreme Court of India has upheld the decision of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) to allot a pipe-to-gas distribution network to a Gujarat-based company in Chennai and Thiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu. A bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hemant Gupta dismissed the petition of Adani Gas Ltd and others and upheld the action of PNGRB.

Regarding this matter, the bench said that it is not wrong to call those who have high bids for allocation. In 2018, the board allocated Pipe Gas Distribution Network AG&P LNG in Puducherry to Torrent Gas Private Limited in Chennai and Thiruvallur districts and SKN Haryana in Kanchipuram district.

In its statement, the apex court said that the argument has no significance that the principle of natural justice has been violated by calling for the allotment of high bidders. The bench said that in the present case, when the board decided to summon the higher bidders in order to justify their bid, the administrative decision of the board cannot be overruled by saying that the principles of natural justice Is violated.
