Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) veteran Azam Khan, who has approached the Supreme Court over Jauhar University, has got a big relief. The top court has stayed the Allahabad High Court's condition on Azam Khan's bail. The District Magistrate of Rampur has been directed to take possession of the land belonging to Jauhar University. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the UP government on Azam Khan's plea and sought its response.

Azam Khan has moved the top court challenging the condition imposed by the Allahabad High Court while granting bail. The apex court also said on Azam's plea that prima facie, the condition of the Allahabad High Court seems to be inconsistent and like a civil court order. The high court had on May 10, while granting interim bail to Azam Khan, directed Rampur DM to take possession of enemy property belonging to the premises of Jauhar University by June 30, 2022, and build a boundary wall around it with barbed wires. The court had said that Azam Khan's interim bail will be converted into regular bail on completion of the said exercise.

Earlier, Azam Khan had filed a petition claiming that the condition pertained to the demolition of a part of his Jauhar University. The matter was brought before a vacation bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Bela M Trivedi.
