Supreme Court hears suo motu case on COVID-19 situation

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the worsening situation of Corona in the country. Today the hearing has started in this case in the apex court. Today, the apex court will also examine the judicial power to declare the lockdown by the High Courts. A three-judge bench of the court headed by CJI SA Bobde is hearing the case. CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde said that people are dying due to lack of oxygen.

Senior advocate Harish Salve said, "Please allow the withdrawal from the case". Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said, "It is quite unfortunate that many virtual media platforms are misusing the process of appointing Harish Salve as amicus curiae in this case". Subsequently, Chief Justice of India SA Bobde allowed Harish Salve to withdraw from the case. Vikas Singh, senior advocate for the Supreme Court Bar Association, said that the Lordship should focus on interstate traffic as there is a shortage of oxygen. The CJI said that the matter has been deferred till Tuesday 27 April.

The Supreme Court on Thursday took suo moto cognizance of the serious situation of corona infection in the country and the problems being faced by patients for oxygen and medicines. The Supreme Court wants a national plan from the central government on the issue of oxygen and the supply of essential medicines. The court has sent notices to the central government, all states, and union territories, considering the idea of ​​oxygen, essential medicines, corona vaccination modalities, and the right to implement the lockdown.
