New Delhi: The Central Government has abolished the special status of the state by repealing Section 370 in force in Jammu and Kashmir. Following the move, the government had imposed several restrictions keeping in view the security arrangements. Several petitions were filed in the Supreme Court in the past against the government's decision. At that time, the court had asked the government to give some more time. The apex court will hear all petitions to abolish Section 370 and related matters today i.e. on Wednesday.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi will hear the petitions seeking the removal of other restrictions including internet and communication services in the valley on Wednesday. NC MP Mohammad Akbar Lone, retired judge Hasnain Masoodi and lawyer ML Sharma have challenged the Centre's decision to remove Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in the Supreme Court.

Besides, former IAS officer Shah Faisal and JNU alumni leader Shehla Rashid have also challenged the government's decision to abolish the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divide the state into two Union Territories. The court will also hear the petition filed by CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury seeking the release of his party leader Mohammad Tarigam.

After the Centre abolished Section 370, the Centre divided Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh into the centrally-held territories. While the government's move in Jammu and Ladakh is cheering, the situation in the valley is tense.
