NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today held a hearing on the removal of Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and restrictions imposed in Kashmir. The Supreme Court has taken a major decision on all these matters. The apex court has issued notices to the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir administration saying that a five-judge Constitutional bench will hear all petitions related to the matter in the first week of October. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi did not agree with the Centre's contention that Attorney General K.K. There is no need to issue notices as Venugopal and Solicitor General are present in the court.

Rejecting the plea of cross-border reaction to the notice, the bench said that we refer the matter to a five-judge Constitution bench. In this back, Justice S. A. Bobde and Justice S. A. Nazir are also included. The Attorney General said that everything said by this court is presented to the United Nations. The bench, which was embroiled in a debate by lawyers from both sides, said, "We know what to do, we have passed the order and we are not going to change it."

The apex court sought a response from the Government of India and the Jammu and Kashmir Administration on a plea seeking abolition of restrictions imposed on journalists after most of the provisions of Section 370 were removed. A notice has been issued on a petition filed by Anuradha Bhasin, executive editor of the Kashmir Times. The bench asked the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to file their reply within seven days on Bhasin's plea. In the petition, Bhasin has sought directions to restore all modes of communication including mobile internet and landline services in the state to create a proper working environment for the media.

The Chief Justice has allowed one of the petitioners, Mohammed Alim Sayeed, to go to Anantnag to meet his parents. The court also ordered the Jammu and Kashmir government to provide police protection to Sayeed. Several petitions were filed in the Supreme Court after the Centre's decision on Jammu and Kashmir.
