Supreme Court to hear PIL over relief for borrowers

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear a PIL on Monday to provide relief to borrowers facing financial challenge during the Corona epidemic. The petition filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari sought directions to the Central government to take steps to overcome economic challenges. The PIL will be heard by a vacation bench of justices Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah of the Supreme court.

The petition seeks interest subvention on term loans to all banks or economic institutions and guidelines to the Central Government to expedite the installation payment of loans for 6 months or till the corona situation returns to normal. At the same time, the Centre has also sought instructions to banks and other economic companies not to take any action against borrowers for 6 months, as restrictions such as lockdowns have adversely affected the command men on a daily basis.

According to media reports, the petition said, "Their (debtors') economic burden should be reduced. Financial policies are formulated by the government, but in the present situation, more than financial policy, it is a question of the existence of the people. And the people of the country should live with respect and without any stress".
