SC issues guidelines to states for children orphaned in corona epidemic

New Delhi: The Supreme court has issued guidelines to the central government and all states over orphans who lost their parents due to the corona epidemic. According to the guideline, states and Union Territories have directed strict action against NGOs illegally adopting children. At the same time, the Supreme court has asked the state government to make provisions to continue the education of orphans.

The court has asked all states and Union Territories in the country to identify children who lost their families during the covid. The court has asked states to upload information of such children on the NCPCR portal without any delay. The court said the state government should ensure that children who were studying in a government or private school before Corona continue their studies in the same government and private schools. Also provide financial assistance to children under government schemes at the earliest. The Supreme Court has asked the state to identify orphans through Childline 1089, Health Officers, Police, NGO and Institutions of Panchayati Raj.

At the same time, the Supreme court directed the District Child Protection Unit to provide food, medicines, clothes, rations to such children. The court said that the Guardians of orphaned children should be produced before the CWC immediately if they are not properly maintained.
