New Delhi: The apex court has issued a notice on the UP government's plea against granting relief to the Managing Director (MD) of Twitter India in the viral video case of beating up an elderly Muslim in Ghaziabad. Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari is scheduled to respond within four weeks on a Supreme Court notice. UP police had registered an FIR against Twitter India in connection with the viral video case against Maheshwari.

The Karnataka High Court had then granted interim relief to Manish Maheshwari, MD of Twitter India, over a notice sent by the police. It also directed Ghaziabad police not to take any stringent steps. Twitter India made Manish Maheshwari the MD of its India operations on April 22, 2019. Maheshwari is reporting to Maya Hari who is the vice president of Twitter and MD of Asia Pacific. Manish Maheshwari is originally from Delhi. He has been watching the Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru teams since 2019. He had previously served as CEO of network 18 Digital.

Manish Maheshwari had also filed a caveat in the apex court himself, demanding that his side be heard before hearing the application filed by the UP government. The video of a Muslim elderly man from the Loni area of Ghaziabad went viral on Twitter recently. In this video, the elderly man accused him of being beaten up, shaved and forcefully shouting slogans of Jai Shri Ram for being a Muslim, while the case turned out to be a beating due to Atabiz and the beating of the elderly was also Muslim. Twitter, which had faked several such videos, had caught its eyes on the video after which the UP police registered a case against Twitter.
