Supreme court orders Kerala government, "Make separate law for Sabarimala temple"

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has asked the Kerala government to make a separate law in 4 weeks for the convenience of the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple administration and visitors. In August last year, the court had asked the Kerala government to enact a new law for the Sabarimala temple, but the state government presented the draft Travancore-Cochin Religious Institution Act.

Actually, the state government was trying to make a joint law for Sabarimala and other temples. But the top court objected to this. The court said, 'There should be a separate law for the Sabarimala temple. The court has given the state government till the third week of January next year to bring the law. Earlier on November 15, the apex court judge Rohington Fali Nariman had reminded the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta the order on the Sabarimala temple, saying that our order should not be disregarded.

The court said that it is your responsibility to get our order obeyed. The apex court on Thursday sent the issue of women's entry to the Sabarimala temple and other religious places on a large bench of seven judges. Due to this, the old decision to enter women in the temple is still made.
