Lucknow: Yogi Adityanath government has got a big relief from the Supreme court. The Supreme Court has stayed the Allahabad High Court order directing the state government to impose lockdown in five cities in the state. In its judgment, the Supreme court asked the state government to tell the Allahabad High Court within a week what steps it has taken to effectively control corona infection. The top court will now hear it two weeks later.

Earlier, the Allahabad High Court's decision to impose lockdown in 5 cities of UP was challenged by Yogi Adityanath's government in the Supreme Court. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for the state government defended. He had sought a hearing on the matter on Tuesday itself, which was cleared by the Supreme court. During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the UP government, argued that the high court's decision would create problems in the general administrative process.

On the other hand, a petition filed by the state government said that the Allahabad High Court should not interfere in policy decisions. Staying the high court order, the Supreme court has also issued a notice to the petitioner seeking a lockdown. The high court had ordered lockdown in five cities of the state including Varanasi and Lucknow.
