New Delhi: The country's largest court has flatly refused to ban electoral bonds issued from April 1. The Apex Court said that the scheme has come into force in 2018 and is currently in progress. At the same time, all measures have been taken to protect it.
The court also dismissed a petition seeking a ban on the sale of electoral bonds ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. During the hearing of the case, the Election Commission said in the Apex Court that it supports the electoral bond scheme as if it does not, political parties will get donations in cash. However, the EC said it wants transparency in the process.
The Apex Court said that this bribe is not only available to the ruling party but also to those who are more likely to come to the government next time. Prashant Bhushan said RBI has also objected to it. RBI says the bonds are a tool or way of an economic scam. The Supreme Court, however, has refused to ban electoral bonds, bypassing every argument.
