New Delhi: The Supreme Court yesterday, i.e. on Monday, refused to stay the decision of the Uttarakhand High Court in which the High Court had allowed candidates with more than two children to contest elections. The Uttarakhand government challenged this decision of the High Court in the Supreme Court on 19 September. A bench of Justices NV Ramana, Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Krishna Murari refused to stay the High Court order stating that the election process had started and there was no reason to interfere.

At the same time, the state government said that it has the right to make such a rule and such things should not happen in the future, the court should examine the matter. On which the bench has issued a notice to the defendants. The Uttarakhand government, on its petition, had requested the High Court to stay the order.

On 19 September, the High Court had also allowed those who are guardians of more than two children to contest the panchayat elections before July 25, 2019. The government recently amended the Uttarakhand Panchayati Raj Act in which Parents of more than two children were banned from contesting panchayat elections. which was repealed by the Uttarakhand High Court.
