New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to interfere in the Jharkhand Panchayat elections. A petition was filed in the top court regarding the demand for OBC reservation in the panchayat elections. During the hearing of the petition, the Supreme Court, as per its earlier order, has categorically refused to interfere in this matter.

The petition was filed in the top court on behalf of MP Chandra Prakash Chaudhary. Let us inform that three-tier panchayat elections are being organized in Jharkhand in four phases. But reservation has not been given to OBC in this election. He had filed a petition regarding OBC reservation only. Let us inform that Panchayat elections are to start in Jharkhand from May 14. Under this, voting will be held in four phases in 1,127 panchayats of 50 blocks under 16 districts and counting of votes will take place on May 17.

Nominations for the first round of panchayat elections were completed on April 23, in which a total of 39,513 candidates filed nominations. According to the State Election Commission report, a total of 758 nominations have been received for Zilla Parishad members, 4,024 for Panchayat Samiti members. For this, 5,965 candidates will be in the fray for the posts of Mukhiya and 18,600 nominations for Panchayat members.
