New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Maharashtra Police not to arrest BJP MLA Nitesh Rane for 10 days in an attempt to murder a case registered in the Sindhudurg district. A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana, while disposing of the anticipatory bail plea of Union Minister Narayan Rane's son Nitesh Rane, directed him to surrender before the lower court within 10 days and file a plea for regular bail in the case.

The Bombay High Court had on January 17 refused anticipatory bail to Nitesh Rane in the case. The court had said that there was a need for a balance between personal liberty and proper investigation of the case. A single bench of the High Court had rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Nitesh Rane and other accused Sandesh Sawant.

But the petition of Manish Dalvi, another accused in the case, was accepted. The case pertains to the alleged attack on local Shiv Sena worker Santosh Parab during campaigning for the Sindhudurg District Co-operative Bank elections.
