New Delhi: The Supreme court has sent notices to West Bengal and the Centre on a petition seeking a SIT inquiry into the violence in West Bengal after the assembly elections, providing compensation or financial assistance to the victims and providing security.

In fact, after the results of the Assembly elections in West Bengal, there has been a demand by the SIT to investigate the causes behind the incidents of violence, arson and arbitrariness in many cities, towns and villages. The court issued notices to the Centre, the West Bengal government and the Election Commission asking them to respond within four weeks. The petition filed in the Supreme court demanded that the Central and State Governments be ordered to rehabilitate those who have left their homes and displaced them in Assam or other states. The petition also sought directions to the Centre to take steps like imposition of President's rule in the state.

At the same time, the petition demands that the Central Government be ordered to deploy paramilitary forces in the state. There has also been a demand for a court SIT-monitored inquiry into the political violence that began on May 2 after the assembly elections and an order to pay compensation to all the victims.
