New Delhi: The issue of migrant workers was heard in the Supreme court today amid the corona epidemic. The court slammed the Central and State Governments on the issue and said that we are not satisfied with your efforts. The court sought a response from the Centre on the labour registration scheme. The court said the process of registration of migrant labourers is quite sluggish. It needs to be intensified.
The Supreme Court said that the process of registration of migrant labourers should be slow, expedited so that the benefits of the schemes reach them. The court said the benefits of the schemes can be availed only after the migrant labourers are identified and registered. The Government should ensure that the benefits of the schemes reach all the beneficiaries including migrants and the process is monitored.
The Supreme Court said that 'we are not satisfied with the efforts of the Centre, states on the issue of registration of workers in unorganized sectors'. The Supreme Court has sought a response from the Central government on a petition urging an ex-gratia of 4 lakh rupees to the families of those who lost their lives due to corona virus infection. The court has also sought a response from the Centre on a petition seeking a uniform policy for issuing death certificates for those who died of corona virus.
