New Delhi: The UP government has again been reprimanded today by the apex court during a hearing in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. The UP police investigation is again the target of the Supreme Court. The court, without naming anyone, said that evidence was being collected in another FIR to save one of the accused. The court further said that it wants retired high court judges to monitor further investigations. The court made it clear that there should be no mismatch between the two FIR registered in the case. The matter will now come up for hearing on Friday.
The court further said that there have been two types of murders in Lakhimpur. The first of the farmers who were trampled by car. The second is of political activists who were killed by the mob. All should be checked. Justice Suryakant acourt said witnesses in both the incidents should be questioned separately. A bench of Chief Justice (CJI) N V Ramana, Justice Suryakant and Justice Hima Kohli was hearing the matter in the court. Harish Salve had defended the up government in the court.
The court also questioned the SIT set up in the case and said that the SIT who is investigating the case is not able to distinguish between the two FIR. The court said that we want to appoint a retired high court judge in the case to make a difference between the two FIR. The court suggested the names of former Punjab High Court judges Ranjit Singh and Rakesh Kumar. Harish Salve, appearing for the UP government, sought time to cast his vote on it. Now the next hearing will be on Friday.
