SC to hear bail plea of activist Gautam Navlakha in Bhima Koregaon case

New Delhi: The apex court will hear the bail plea of social activist Gautam Navlakha in the alleged Elgar Parishad-Maoist affair case on Wednesday. Gautam Navlakha filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court order on 19 February. The High Court on February 8 dismissed his bail plea, saying, "He sees no reason to interfere with the order of the special court. His (Navlakha's) bail plea was turned down by the special court.''

A bench of Justice U U Lalit, Justice Indira Banerjee, and Justice KM Joseph will hear Navlakha's appeal against the order of the High Court. According to the police, some activists had allegedly given provocative and provocative speeches at the Elgar Parishad meeting in Pune on December 31, 2017, leading to violence in Koregaon Bhima in the district the next day.

Police alleged that the program had the support of some Maoist organizations. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating the case. Navlakha challenged the order of the special NIA court in the High Court. His application for statutory bail was turned down by the special NIA court on July 12, 2020.
