New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on Friday two anticipatory bail pleas of P Chidambaram against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the INX media case, but a petition by Chidambaram has become meaningless after being arrested by the CBI. However, the matter will still come up for hearing as ED has not yet arrested the former finance minister.

The Supreme Court is unlikely to give Chidambaram relief now. In fact, on Thursday, Chidambaram was produced in The Rauz Avenue Court, from where he was remanded till August 26. Appearing on behalf of the CBI, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had demanded the custody of the senior Congress leader. During the court hearing, the prosecution had said that the investigation revealed that $50 million had been paid by Indrani Mukherjee.

Indrani Mukherjee is a co-accused in the case. However, Chidambaram refused to ask this question by the CBI. The prosecution had also argued that when the documents were shown to them, Chidambaram kept quiet and evaded. This forced them to face further documents.
