New Delhi: The issue of Centre vs Delhi government has once again reached the doorsteps of the Supreme Court. This time the issue is the control of bureaucrats in the national capital, which the Supreme Court will hear today i.e. on Wednesday (September 7). The matter was last heard on May 6. During that time it was decided to refer the case to a larger bench. The then Chief Justice (CJI) NV Ramana had then said that the Constitution Bench would decide only on the issues of 'services' in Delhi.

On Wednesday, Justices DY Chandrachud, MR Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha will hear the matter and take a decision. In fact, Article 239AA gave information regarding the legislative and executive powers of the Delhi government. The special thing is that this article of the Constitution clearly states that land, police and public order will remain under the central government.

The Central Government had said before the three-judge bench to set limits for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on behalf of the Constitution Bench. According to the Centre, sub-section 3 of Article 239AA can have more than three subjects specifically included on which the Delhi government cannot make a law. The Centre said it should be clarified by another five-judge bench.
