New Delhi: A review petition filed by the Ministry of Labour and Employment and EPFO is being heard today against the apex court's verdict in the PF pension case. If the apex court upheld the verdict against EPFO, the pension of lakhs of pensioners could be increased drastically.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice U Lalit will hear the petitions on January 18. Earlier, the Kerala High Court and the Supreme Court have ruled in favour of EPFO pensioners. The apex court had upheld the Kerala High Court judgement. The apex court on 1 April 2019 upheld the Kerala High Courts' verdict on the monthly pension of employees' pension scheme (EPS). The Labour Ministry had then filed an appeal against the High Court judgement despite a review petition filed by EPFO.

On July 12, 2019, a bench headed by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi ordered a hearing on both the petitions. However, no further action was taken in this regard. Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Standing Committee has asked for a clean-up in the matter in October 2019.
