NEW DELHI: The Supreme Cour on Thursday will hear a petition filed by 10 rebel MLAs of the Congress and JDS alliance over the ongoing political drama in Karnataka. In fact, rebel MLAs have filed a petition in the apex court questioning the speaker's decision. The resignations were rejected by Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar. They had cited the reason for rejecting it as not in the prescribed format.

The speaker had then asked the MLAs to resign again. After the resignations were rejected, the coalition government has certainly escaped a minority and may have given him some relief. The Speaker was questioned whether the Legal Cell of the Congress had written to him for not accepting his resignation. Kumar had said that he had not yet seen the letter. Kumar said,  "I came today after leaving office on Saturday. Ramesh had said that there is no provision in the Constitution or the rule regarding the time period. Today, I will fix it or in the next two hours, after two years, all these are irrelevant questions to me. I have to take care of the sentiments of the people.

After the resignations of the rebel MLAs, the Congress-JDS-led government in the House has come down to 103. While the BJP has 105 MLAs and the support of two independents who withdrew their support from the alliance on Monday. All the rebel MLAs have camped at a secret place in Maharashtra.
