New Delhi: A petition filed in the apex court has caught everyone's attention. In this petition, it has been demanded to replace the English word INDIA with BHARAT or HINDUSTAN. The apex court will hear this petition on June 2. The petitioner has said in his petition that this change will ensure the liberation of the citizens of the country from the colonial past.

The petitioner, a resident of Delhi, in his petition has requested the apex court to amend the constitution to replace the word 'India' with 'Bharat' or 'Hindustan' and direct the Central Government. It has been claimed in the petition that the words 'Bharat' or 'Hindustan' generate a sense of pride towards our nationality. The petitioner has appealed to the apex court to issue directions to the central government for amendment of article 1 of the constitution and order the country to be either India or Hindustan by removing the word 'India'.

Article 1 of the Constitution relates to the name of this Republic. The petitioner, in his petition, referred to the discussion on Article 1 of the then draft of the Constitution in the Constituent Assembly in 1948. The petitioner said in the petition that it was strongly advocated to name the nation as 'Bharat' or 'Hindustan'. In the petition, the petitioner has said that this is the right time when the country is known by its original and authentic name 'India'.
