New Delhi: The curatorial petition of the accused in the Nirbhaya rape case will be heard in the apex court today (Tuesday). A 5-judge constitutional bench of Justices NV Ramana, Justice Arun Mishra, Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, Justice R Bhanumathi and Justice Ashok Bhushan will hear the petitions filed by Vinay Sharma and Mukesh.

There are 4 convicts in this case, out of which only 2 have filed petitions in the Supreme Court. The hearing on the petition will not be held in the open court but in the judges' chamber, which will start at 2:00 pm. The Bench of Justice Bhanumati and Justice Bhushan dismissed the conviction's plea on December 18, following which the Trial Court of Patiala House issued a death warrant to hang the 4 accused on January 22.

The warrant was issued on the plea of Nirbhaya's mother, in the petition demanding from the trial court that no plea of the convicts is pending before the apex court or with the President, hence the trial court take action to bring the death sentence. 6 were found guilty in this case, one of whom committed suicide in jail, one was released after serving a 3-year sentence for being a minor. While the death warrant has been issued against the remaining 4.
