New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear today a petition filed by rebel MLAs over the Karnataka crisis. The bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi will hear the case. In the last hearing, the Supreme Court had ordered the status quo in Karnataka to remain the same for the time being in the case of resignation of MLAs. The court had said that by the time the next hearing of the case will be held on Tuesday, no decision will be taken on the resignation, nor will the MLAs be disqualified from their membership.

Out of 15 MLAs who resigned from the Assembly membership, 10 have filed a petition in the Supreme Court. He alleged that Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar is running away from his constitutional obligation. He is not deciding on his resignation. Inverted MLAs have started the process of disqualifying them. Efforts are being made to save the government that has lost its majority.

Earlier, the rebel MLAs had filed a petition in the apex court questioning the speaker's decision. The resignation was rejected by Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar. The resignation was said to be not in the prescribed format due to its rejection. Speaker Ramesh Kumar had now asked the MLAs to resign again. The Congress-JDS coalition government had escaped a minority after the resignations were rejected.
