NEW DELHI: A petition challenging The Notification of President Ram Nath Kovind repealing Section 370 of the Constitution from Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled to be heard in the Supreme Court today. Former top army and government officials have filed a petition in the apex court on the issue. It can be listed in the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing. In the petition, former bureaucrats and military officials termed the decision of the central government as against the spirit of the Constitution and democracy.

Those who filed the petition include Radhakumar, who was inducted by the Home Ministry during the UPA government in 2010-2011 into a group negotiating the Jammu and Kashmir issue. In addition, former IAS officer of J&K cadre Hindal Haider Tayyebji, former Deputy Director of Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis and former Air Vice Marshal Kapil Kak, former Major General Ashok Kumar Mehta, former IAS Amitabh Pandey of Punjab cadre, former IAS officer in 2011 and 2011 Gopal Pillai, who retired as Union Home Secretary, has also moved a petition against the government's order.

The petitioners have been produced by advocates Arjun Krishnan, Kaustubha Singh and Rajlakshmi Singh. Senior advocate Prashant Sen will defend him before the court. The petitioners say that it is because of Section 370 that Jammu and Kashmir is connected with India and now the removal is to play with the sentiments of the voice of Jammu and Kashmir.
