New Delhi: The petition filed against Maratha reservation will be heard in the Supreme Court of India today. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has appointed former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi to present the side of the state government during the hearing in the apex court. Rohatgi is accompanied by an entire team of lawyers.

The team comprises Paramjit Patwalia, Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni, Nishant Katneshwarkar appointed by the state government to the apex court, Advocate Sachin Patwardhan, Chairman, State Level Accounts Committee, Sukhre, Advocate of Mumbai High Court, Ed. Akshay Shinde, General Administration Department Secretary Shivaji Daund, Law and Justice Department Secretary (Law and Legislation) Rajendra Bhagwat, Co-Secretary Gurv.

Let us tell you that the Devendra Fadnavis government had passed the Maratha Reservation Amendment Bill in July this year, after amending the old law, now the Maratha community in Maharashtra state will be given 13 percent reservation in educational institutions and 12 percent in government jobs. The bill passed last year had a provision of 16 per cent reservation, after which constitutionality challange was given to the Marathas in the state by filing a petition in the Bombay High Court.
